The sky is so dark Venus can cast a shadow! The park offers several night sky programs. Best Night Skyīryce Canyon also offers one of the best night skies in the country. Wonderful Viewsīryce Canyon offers wonderful views from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau where you are able to see the red rock spires, hoodoos, and amphitheaters. But it is a beautiful place.Bryce Canyon National Park is easily accessible from Springdale for hikes and day trips. We’ve been to Bryce twice now and get altitude sickness, so I’m not sure we’ll be back soon. If we stay again, I’d probably opt for a main lodge room. There is a general store that is kind of like a camping/convenience store- not many options, but we got sandwiches one day that were ok. The coffee place didn’t have much to offer- we didn’t eat there. We ate at the main restaurant, which was very good. The lodge area is small, and there aren’t many dining options. Not many outlets if you need to plug in electronics. The floors were filthy, which is probably on par for most hotels. There are wooden logs in the ceiling- cool to look at- but they kept “shedding” bark and I think I was allergic. If it was too hot and you add cold water, the whole shower turns to freezing cold water. It was nearly impossible to get the water temperature to a place where it was not either scalding hot or freezing cold. There were 3 knobs- hot, cold and on/off. The fan lights only work when the fan is on. CONS: Not a direct view of the canyon- the room description made me think we’d be able to see canyon but now I realize that makes no sense. Gel hand soap near one sink and shampoo/conditioner/body wash in shower. Housekeeping didn’t clean while we were there, but they checked on us and restocked essentials. The ambiance of the room is rustic cabin. Room has a small table with 2 chairs and one nigh-table at each bedside. Small hallway (where the adjoining room door is) where we were able to store one of the suitcases. And across the hall is another sink area with a bench and closet. There is a bathroom with shower/sink/toilet. There are 2 separate bathroom areas- I actually loved this. PROS: Private porch with bench and shoe wiping mat. It definitely was more rustic-ish than I thought it would be. There were 3 of us in the cabin and it was smaller than I thought it would be. The cabins are in a little “campground” type area a quick walk to the main lodge. We were able to see the Milky Way with our naked eyes at night. There is nothing like being so close to the canyon- especially early in the days and late at nights. Stayed 2 nights in a Western Cabin at the lodge. Tip: do not eat at the restaurant at the lodge. You are in the park so there is no fighting the entrance queue. Overall, would probably stay here again, though the price is a little on the high side at $283/night, just because of the location. The sunset lodge is just a short walk through the forest to the overlooks. Although the rooms were a bit dated and could do with a refresh, they were relaxing and comfortable enough. There was a microwave and a small beerferator. The room was not equipped with an iron or board, and no TV. There is also a small balcony that made for a nice place to sit and relax, even though it overlooked the car park, it was a nice peaceful place to sit and listen to the rush of wind through the trees. Room 230 is a 2 Queen room on the top floor. This lodge is a 5 minute walk from the main lodge but driving it is only about 2 minutes. We were assigned room 230 at the Sunset Lodge. Check in time is advertised as 1600, it didn’t happen, finally in our room at 1630. We stayed at the Lodge at Bryce Canyon for two nights, Jun 8/9.
